The Newcastle Art Gallery Youth Advisory Group acknowledges the Awabakal and Worimi people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, and pay our deepest respects to Elders past, present and future. The Youth Advisory Group is dedicated to honouring the culture and traditions of our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through the visual arts.

James Rhodes primarily works within the medium of photography. Rhodes explores memory and his own relationship to photographs through the interconnection between the image and materiality of his works.
By playing with the inherent illusion embedded in a medium that is praised for its ability to tell the 'truth', Rhodes uncovers his own way of experiencing, and making sense of, the world around him.
